Hi, all. Lots to talk about on Tuesday…

1. 640 Lansdowne Avenue/former TTC Barns site – This news is long awaited! Redevelopment has been initiated on this site. The urban planning firm, Urban Strategies, will present initial plans and ideas.

2. Land Development Update – Councillor Bailao’s Office will update us on specific development sites/issues.

3. Bloor Collegiate Site – what will appear in its place? What is the timing for this community change?

4. New Development Charge By-law – Councillor’s Office will provide background on what’s being proposed by City Council.

5. Bloor Street Rebuild – every 100 or so years every street in Toronto gets rebuilt down to its foundation. Our stretch of Bloor Street West is now on the rebuild schedule. This has implications for all modes of traffic and the financial health of the wonderful new businesses along the street.

The November meeting will provide a rare opportunity for residents of Davenport to discuss the roles of our three elected representatives with:

MP Andrew Cash (elected May 2011)

* MPP Jonah Schein (elected October 2011)

Ward 18 Councilor Ana Bailão (elected October 2010)

They will be at the meeting to talk about their responsibilities as members in each of the three levels of government. The focus of the evening is to discuss where their jurisdictions begin and end and where there is overlap and opportunity for collaboration to improve our riding.

- Responsibilities of each member in relation to 6 major areas of concern. About 12 minutes per:

- Education

- Environment

- Public Transit

A couple of days ago, someone on Twitter asked who Lansdowne Ave. was named after. Here's the answer, from Toronto Street Names, page 131:

"Lansdowne Ave. was named in 1883 by the village council of Parkdale, in honour of the new Governor General of Canada: Henry Charles Keith Petty-Fitzmaurice, the 5th Marquis of Lansdowne (1845-1927). Lansdowne performed his duties admirably from 1883 to 1888, during a tumultuous period in Canadian history. The Northwest Rebellion broke out and the Canadian pacific Railway was completed, despite the scandals that rocked the country. His distinguished political career also included Lord of the Treasury (1869-72) and Undersecretary for War (1872-74) in England, and Viceroy of India (1888-93)."

Please come out and join members of your community for the Wallace-Campbell Safety Walk (please see attachment for more information and a map of the route - and please distribute widely)

With members of the community, along with staff from many city departments, safety audits provide an opportunity to evaluate spaces from the standpoint of women, children and other vulnerable groups. Together we will examine how social and physical environments can make an area safe or un-safe. Things we will look for: people's attitudes and behaviours, lighting, signage, sightlines, isolation, maintenance, and accessibility.

The Junction Triangle Rail Committee will be holding a planning meeting this Tuesday, November 2 at 7 p.m. at Boo Radley's on Dupont. The committee will be discussing plans for the upcoming year after a successful series of neighbourhood picnics with musical performances, a great all candidates event and a Nuit Blanche exhibit that helped spread news of the Metrolinx diesel plans to thousands of people.

If you are interested in helping fight for electric trains, please join us. Membership in the committee is open to anyone interested.

Clean Train Coalition - General Meeting
